New 2017 Ford Explorer at Four Seasons Ford for Hendersonville, NC

The 2017 Ford Explorer is only a year from an update that included quieter and refined interiors and has a new mid-range engine option that's become significantly better over the generations. This year, the XLT Sport Appearance Package is here in case the offered Sport Trim is not already enough for you. The Sync 3 infotainment system is a very welcome addition this year as well. If properly equipped, it can tow 5,000 pounds! It can use EcoBoost's engine capabilities with an intelligent 4WD for adverse conditions, and all while seating up to seven.  All in all, an advantageous and far-reaching vehicle, plus it's versatile on a road-trip with all the varying situations that can occur.

Under the Explorer's Hood

What powers this powerhouse of towing and destination exploration? The base and XLT Explorers get a 3.5-liter V-6 rated at 290 horsepower and 255 pound-feet of torque. It's put with a 6-speed automatic and can push all four wheels in XLT trims and above. Optional on XLT and FWD Limited models and standard on all-wheel-drive (AWD) Limited models lies the turbocharged 2.3-liter turbo Inline-4 with 280-hp and 310 lb-ft torque. At the top end of the Explorer spectrum is a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V-6, getting 365-hp and a whopping 350 lb-ft torque. It comes onboard with all-wheel drive in Platinum and Sport models. Sport and Platinum trims have standard the 3.5-liter EcoBoost V-6, while the Limited edition has the 2.3-liter Inline-4 EcoBoost engine, which gets 19 city / 28 highway / 22 combined mpg on FWD, and AWD versions see 18/26/21 mpg, per EPA-estimates.

Design of Ford Explorer

Even though the focus with exploring tends to be outside, Ford knows that in order to get there, you will be inside for a while. Why not provide comfortable interiors and handy features?  The trim models are: Explorer, XLT, Limited, Sport, and Platinum. For starters, there are power windows, mirrors, and locks, Bluetooth connectivity, cruise control, cloth upholstery, steering-wheel controls, and an AM/FM/CD stereo with 4.2-inch display blasting on six speakers. Need more than that? The XLT trim adds 18-inch wheels, keyless ignition, satellite radio, and a 10-way power driver's seat. 2017's Sport Appearance Package adds to the XLT 20-inch wheels, an essential black roof rack, and gray leather seating for that extravagant feel. The Limited trim adds 20-inch wheels, a heated steering wheel, interior ambient lighting, a power folding third row and a 12-speaker Sony setup. This is the way to get there with outstanding convenience and fun!

Let's talk safety features available: Front-facing 180-degree Camera, Lane Keeping System, Trailer Sway Control, Standard AdvanceTrac with Roll Stability Control, Curve Control, Adaptive Cruise Control, Cross Traffic Alert and a Snow mode, as well as, at the very least, the same competent airbag array as last year's model.  Safety ratings for the 2017 Ford Explorer aren't here quite yet, but it's fundamentally unchanged from last year's model that was rigourously tested by two major U.S. safety organizations. Let's just say that your biggest worry will no longer be if you can make it down the snowy side of the Rockies with the trailer, as the 2017 Ford Explorer is one of the best options for that sort of endeavor. If you're needing a dependable SUV for around town and also take lots of trips, plan to put the Explorer on your checklist to pick up before the next season arrives!
