New 2017 Ford Mustang at Four Seasons Ford for Hendersonville, NC
Fifty-two years strong, the fastback-styled 2017 Ford Mustang is a robust machine, full of competition-scaring features, design and ready-to-burn power under the lid. This newest generation came onto the scene two years ago, has several body styles (including convertible), and has the snarling engines to suit your Mustang-filled dreams. Speaking of that, engine options include a turbocharged four-cylinder, a V6 and two booming V8's; many interior upgrades give it a high-tech sensibility (think Sync voice command or a rear-view camera) and driving is calculated for supreme handling around turns. It's very hard to resist the current incarnation of the Mustang if you have been holding out, and if you are doing that because of fuel economy, Ford has addressed that with its EcoBoost tech. No excuse now, permission to race granted!
Under the Mustang's Hood
The 2017 rear-wheel-drive Mustang is presented with either a six-speed manual transmission or a six-speed automatic with paddle shifters. Now, what you have been looking for, the four engines: a 3.7-liter V6 with 300 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque is standard on the base, a turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine generating 310 hp and 320 lb-ft, and the GT models can somehow contain a 5.0-liter V8 that attains 435 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque. At this point, we might as well cue the drum roll for the 5.2L V8, which delivers 526 hp and 429 lb-ft of torque (standard on the Shelby GT350® and Shelby GT350R)! And for the car racers reading this: the engines are fitted with an integral link independent rear suspension, aluminum-alloy rear knuckles, and H-arms to help reduce unsprung mass. It now has twice as much anti-squat in the suspension and almost 10 times as much anti-lift, making for better pitch control during hard acceleration and braking (compared to the prior generation). If you skimmed all that as mechanics-only language, that's OK, rest assured that it just means Ford has really fine-tuned the ride for speed and performance on this vehicle!
Design of Ford Mustang
The 2017 Ford Mustang is available as a coupe or a soft-top convertible. There are ten, yes TEN, trims: V6 Fastback, V6 Convertible, EcoBoost Fastback, EcoBoost Premium Fastback, EcoBoost Premium Convertible, GT Fastback, GT Premium Fastback, GT Premium Convertible, Shelby GT350 and the Shelby GT350R. The Mustang V6 comes with 17-inch alloy wheels, a limited-slip rear differential, keyless ignition and entry, Track Apps and a six-speaker sound system. The EcoBoost gets those options as standard and adds a turbocharged four-cylinder engine, a six-way power passenger seat, and active noise cancellation. To the EcoBoost's standard equipment, the EcoBoost Premium adds heated mirrors, a rear diffuser, selectable drive modes, a nine-speaker audio system, satellite radio and the Sync 3 infotainment system. The EcoBoost Premium mostly shares the regular EcoBoost's options, substituting leather Recaro sport seats, and it also offers a Premier Trim with Color Accent package, a Pony package (19-inch wheels, unique front fascia, side stripe, pony-logo floor mats), a navigation system, and a 12-speaker Shaker audio system. The Mustang GT has the regular EcoBoost's equipment level, but adds a V8 engine, and thoughtfully, upgraded brakes. Options for the GT are similar to the regular EcoBoost, but the GT Performance adds a Torsen limited-slip differential. The Black Accent package (19-inch black alloy wheels, black-out badges, black rear spoiler) is optional. The GT Premium comes with essentially the same standard features as the EcoBoost Premium and instead has the California Special package offered (19-inch black alloy wheels, a rear spoiler and added trim details). Inside, even the base Mustang comes standard with keyless entry and ignition, a rearview camera and Track Apps, and the Sync voice command system. The Mustang coupe's trunk carves out 13.5 cubic feet of cargo space, while the convertible offers 11.4 cubic feet. Standard folding rear seatbacks on the coupe work well to increase cargo capacity, not that you are worried about groceries in this car, but still, it's nice to have some room for the beach supplies that's out of sight.

Standard safety features include antilock disc brakes, traction and stability control, a rearview camera, front-seat side airbags, side curtain airbags (coupe only), driver and front passenger knee airbags, Ford's MyKey parental controls and (for manual-transmissions) and Hill-start Assist. Optional on EcoBoost Premium and GT Premium are adaptive cruise control with forward collision alert and a blind-spot warning system with rear cross-traffic alert. Now is the time to get yourself into the 2017 Ford Mustang, considering all of the refinement and driveability inherent in this iconic, modernized ride.
