Go back in time and learn about the individuals who contributed to the foundation of Henderson County at the Henderson County Heritage Museum. The Henderson County Heritage Museum is located in an early 1900’s courthouse in the heart of the Main Street Historic District. Their various exhibits are free of charge and include wonderful information about the Civil War, the coming of the railroad and many other subjects!

Grandad’s Apples & Such

If you didn’t already know, apples are one of the most important agricultural crops grown in Henderson County, accounting for nearly $22-million-dollars per year. One of the most popular apple orchards in the Hendersonville area is Grandad’s Apples & Such, which is an 80-acre family farm only ten minutes away from Downtown! Grandad’s Apples & Such is the ideal destination for a group/family outing and offers quality products that you can take from their selected bins or you can harvest the apples yourself. Don’t forget to stop at the bakery on your way out for apple cider doughnuts or apple ice cream!

Team ECCO Ocean Center & Aquarium

Team ECCO Ocean Center & Aquarium is the only public aquarium in Western North Carolina and their main focus is providing interactive programs and activities for families and children in the Hendersonville area to experience the ocean. Inside the Team ECCO Ocean Center & Aquarium is 24 exhibits where visitors can look and learn about the different species of ocean life like turtles, tropical coral reed fish and invertebrates.

Chimney Rock Park

Chimney Rock Park is just a 45-minute drive up Highway 64 for Hendersonville residents. Chimney Rock Park is home to one of best locations for North Carolina mountains and it has one of the states highest waterfalls. If you’re looking for dramatic views, a signature 315-foot spire, or just a beautiful location for climbing or hiking, then Chimney Rock Park is your go-to destination. Park visitors can also stop by the Animal Discovery Den to learn even more about the wildlife that lives in the Chimney Rock Park area.

The Western North Carolina Air Museum

The Western Carolina Air Museum is dedicated to promoting general aviation and to preserving the Carolina’s rich flying heritage. The Western North Carolina Air Museum was founded in 1989 and is known as the First Air Museum in the First in Flight State. The museum houses award-winning restored and replica antique and vintage airplanes.

Jump Off Rock

Jump Off Rock is the scene of a Cherokee legend and is located in Laurel Park, boasting the perfect location to get a cool panoramic mountain view photograph. Carl Sandburg Home

Carl Sandburg was considered the voice of the American people and was awarded three Pulitzer Prizes in his life. Carl Sandburg was a poet, writer and editor, who left a great impact in the world and North Carolina. You can participate in the guided tours of the house he lived in and learn about his life and work. The home is now a National Historic Site and is located in an area considered a National Park, with many hikes and natural sights to enjoy for free.

Elijah Mountain Gem Mine

Elijah Mountain Gem Mine is located two and a half miles west of downtown Hendersonville and is a place that both kids and adults adore. At Elijah Mountain Gem Mine, you are able to step into the shoes of a prospector from the 1800’s and participate in the mining of real gemstones. Once you’re done mining, you are able to keep your findings that may include rubies, sapphires and emeralds!
Saint Paul Mountain Vineyards

Want to enjoy the views of the Blue Ridge Mountains while sipping on a fine glass of wine? Saint Paul Mountain Vineyards is a family owned winery that has produced one of the best North Carolina wines from 14 varieties of grapes for more than nine generations. At Saint Paul Mountain Vineyards, you can visit the tasting room and try Riesling blends, red cabernets and chardonnays all while taking in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountain surroundings.

Mineral & Lapidary Museum

With a collection that features the natural beauty of minerals, gems, and fossils, the Mineral and Lapidary Museum welcomes visitors who wish to discover the world beneath their feet. Since the state of North Carolina has one of the nation’s most diverse mineral deposits, you will be able to see many minerals from the region, including the exhibit on the Hendersonville meteorite. The most popular items are the casting of a tyrannosaurus rex skull, a mastodon tusk and teeth and a wooly mammoth leg bone.
